How to play
Color Memory tests your visual memory: you see a color for a few seconds, then rebuild it from memory.
Cardinal in the Sun 1
Memorize
A color fills the swatch for a few seconds. Notice its hue, how vivid it is and how light or dark.
Your color 2
Recreate
The swatch goes blank. The rainbow bar picks the hue; the square picks saturation and brightness. With a keyboard, arrows move by 1 and Shift + arrow by 10.
Your color Target 3
Compare
Your swatch and the original are laid side by side. You get a score from 0 to 100 and how far off you were in hue, saturation and lightness.
Scoring
Colors are compared the way the eye sees them (in the OKLab color space), not by their numbers: two colors that look alike score high even if their values differ.
- 90+90 or more: nailed it. The color joins your sample deck.
- 50+50 or more: your streak goes on.
- < 50Under 50: a miss. In endless, three misses end the game.
Modes
- Daily
- Five rounds with the same colors for everyone. One game a day, with its own daily leaderboard.
- Classic
- Eight rounds of three seconds each.
- Speed
- Eight rounds; the time drops from 3 to 0.5 seconds.
- Precision
- Eight rounds; each color is closer to the one before, so they get harder to tell apart.
- Endless
- No round limit; the time drops to one second, and three misses end it.
Tips
- Start with how light or dark it is: that's what memory keeps best.
- Name it in your head: "faded orange, almost brown".
- Play at a comfortable screen brightness, away from colored light.
